“Get over yourself “
Whenever this phrase is used, it is used in a derogatory sense maybe, to intimidate or to ” put someone in their place.”
However, I feel, in this phrase lies the key to liberation, if we look at it with a different perspective.
As a naturally shy child and somewhat introverted adult, I had always felt safer merging with the background.
Second guessing everything I said or did, in front of people I did not know.
If I spoke up, I felt as if there was a spotlight on me and it made me stumble through the sentences that had initially seemed quite sensible or funny in my head before they came out of my mouth.
Over the years, Ive learnt to “get over myself ” and this has made it so much easier for me to be me, not give it a second thought or go into self judgement and crippling self talk.
It has set me free to do the work I do and connect to people from a place of authenticity and honesty without needing validation or encouragement.
I rarely need to tell myself nowadays to get over myself, but its been quite the journey to get here.
“Get over yourself” to me initially, has meant, loving myself enough to not listen to the judgemental voice in my head that became louder and more judgemental as I grew up.
It has meant, finding the courage to let go of inhibitions that were never part of my true nature, to begin with.
It has meant letting go of the false ideas of who I was supposed to be or ” should ” be, to really just be who I truly was, all along.
It has made it easier for me to relax into my true self and that is such sweet liberation.
It requires zero effort to be who you truly are, when you finally get over yourself.
Be you as much as you can be you. I think I heard that dialogue in the movie “Lorax” and it has stayed with me since.
When I relax into ” getting over myself” Im getting over my ego, my personality to reach inwards to my true soul self.
The magic of operating from the soul self is that the soul operates from ” oneness”
When you operate from being everything you are no longer afraid of being nothing.
