What happens when you stop chasing the other side and look at where you currently are?
Today, I decided to start re-listening to The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. It reminded me that our mind can create obstacles and fear-based thoughts if we allow it to. It then magnifies these thoughts until they crowd out hope, faith, and positive thinking completely.
We stop noticing where we currently are with contentment, satisfaction, and deep gratitude. Instead, we start to flap around, trying to get somewhere else where we believe we will finally feel peace and satisfaction.
This can be the mind’s doing if we allow it free rein.
Instead, if we stop and fill our minds with awareness of the blessings already present in our lives, we begin to crowd out negative, pessimistic thinking. We start to notice how much there is to appreciate right where we are.
This is a powerful shift. The obstacles our mind created and made look so tough to surmount may begin to soften or fall away.
And the peace and satisfaction we were chasing become available in the very place where we are standing.
